Multi-touch Capability

I’ve heard that Microsoft Windows 7 supports touch. Do I need a Windows 7 machine to be able to use ActivInspire 1.5?

No. ActivInspire 1.5 supports multi-touch capability specifically when used with the AB500 Pro board from Promethean. If any of the operating systems supported by ActivInspire 1.5 – such as Windows 7 - are touch-enabled, you can take advantage of ActivInspire"s multi-touch capability when using with the AB500 board.

I don’t have a touch-enabled board. Can I still use ActivInspire 1.5 with my regular ActivBoard?

Yes. The multi-touch capability of ActivInspire only works if you have a touch-enabled AB500 board connected. If you have a touch-enabled computer, you can use it with the touch capability of ActivInspire 1.5.

Does ActivInspire 1.5 have any features for people who don’t have a touch-enabled ActivBoard 500?

Yes. ActivInspire 1.5 also comes with a new Question Manager, enhanced Self-Paced Learning features and other improvements that benefit all ActivClassroom users.

What can I do with ActivInspire’s multi-touch capability when I use my ActivBoard 500 Pro?

Multi-touch capability within ActivInspire 1.5 refers to the ability of a user to manipulate an object using one or two fingers. You can use touch in ActivInspire 1.5 to:

  • Select, rotate and resize objects.
  • Use a finger as a pen input.
  • Write text and create objects with a pen; move and select these options using touch.

Touch may be turned "on" or "off" in the "Settings" menu. When touch is turned off, the board can be used as a "normal" pen- based ActivBoard. In the "Settings" menu it is also possible to set the default tool for touch input.

Can more than one user simultaneously use ActivInspire 1.5 with the AB500 Pro?

Yes, more than one user can be active at the board simultaneously.

Within ActivInspire 1.5 this is either:

  • Dual User Pen (teacher and student) where two users can simultaneously interact with the board independently.
  • If touch mode is activated then two users can independently interact with the board (one using Student Pen and one using touch).

What do ‘gestures’ mean and what kind of gestures does the ActivBoard 500 Pro support?

A gesture is a physical interaction with the board using touch. Examples of this can be moving or resizing an object using touch.

Within ActivInspire 1.5, the following gestures are supported: One finger touch, tap or swipe, two finger pinch or rotate, one finger flick.

Question Manager

Why has Question Manager replaced the previous Question Wizard?

In response to user feedback, the Question Wizard has now become Question Manager, so that the whole task of creating, editing and managing questions, question sets and assessments can be managed from one place within ActivInspire.

Will my previously created questions and assessments still work?

Yes – just use them as you normally would during a class or while you are editing an assessment.

What does ‘Control Progress Through Levels’ mean?

This is a new feature that is available within Question Manager. The teacher can set the question levels in Question Manager; they can now also set the number of correct answers required from the student so that they can progress to the next level within the assessment. For example, if there are 3 levels within the assessment and the student needs to answer 1correct question at Level 1, 2 correct questions at Level 2, then the student cannot progress to Level 2 if they do not answer 1 correct questions at Level 1 – they cannot proceed further in the assessment. This feature is an option and can be turned on or off by the teacher.

Set Square

Is the Set Square available to everyone, in all language versions?

Yes. The new Set Square, which can be found in the Maths Tools menu under Tools > Maths Tools, has been included to support teachers and learners in European countries who use this style of tool to measure angles, as part of the Maths curriculum. The tool is used in the same way as the other Maths tools, and can be moved and manipulated using the new pen and touch functionality.

What’s New?

What is the ‘What’s New?’ option under the Help menu tab?

The Help option in ActivInspire 1.5 has been updated to include information on how to use the new features; this is available in a separate "What"s New" menu option.
